The aim of this post-processing is too provide a simple script to analyze the effect of a small variation of the current stator yoke geometry on acoustic noise due to magnetic forces. The yoke geometry (diameter to yoke height ratio) influences several factors which can have opposite trends:

  • stiffness of the yoke
  • surface radiation of the machine
  • modal radiation efficiency

The stator lamination geometry is changed according to the following three strategies:

Note that this study is purely static and does not account for resonances, it is meant to help decision making. For a more accurate study it is recommended to carry a sensitivity study on your specific application.

One obtains the following results on the default machine:
