How to create a new project/simulation?

A MANATEE project is the association of a machine and a simulation. The simulation is defined in the project file and the machine is selected thought the "Input.Simu.machine_name" parameters of the project file. By this way, the project file contains all that MANATEE need to create the Input structure and run the simulation.

The list of all the variable to set in the structure are in "project files" that are stored in Projects folder. These files are simply script that set one by one all the variable of the Input structure. The project file itself contains mostly "simulation parameters" (speed, power strategy, type of simulation, model to use...).

A project script doesn’t have to contain all the variables. If some variables are missing, they will be set to their default values (these values can be found in default_proj.m). In fact, MANATEE evaluates the script default_proj (to set all the variable to default value) before evaluating the current project script (to overwrite the corresponding variables).

To create a new project one need to copy and paste a project file and edit it’s content. The name of your project script should not contain any space nor the symbol “–“. This name need also to be unique in your Matlab Path to avoid conflict. Several project files can be used as template :

  • default_proj.m : contains all the variables.
  • Validation project : In /Project/Validation one can find all the project used to validate MANATEE. These project were design to match article design and assert that MANATEE produce the expected result. All the validation project can be found in the Validation section
  • Tutorial project : In /Projects/Demo, one can find all the tutorial projects

You can also use MANATEE GUI to setup the simulation.

To know how to set the variable in the file, one can use the documentation (directly in the file comments or in Doc folder) that associate variable name to definition (ex : N0 => Rotor mechanical speed). One can also use the search engine of this website.
