MANATEE new features

Subdomain model for squirrel cage induction machines

A subdomain model for squirrel cage induction machines with semi-closed slot has been developed and validated at no-load. Both radial and tangential airgap flux components can therefore be calculated in MANATEE. The subdomain extension to the loaded case is under development. The following graph shows a comparison between the result of a finite element method and the subdomain one (which run within seconds).

Space Vector

A new space vector post processing command allows to decompose a selected force harmonic in a space vector graph, showing the contribution of each product of flux density waves. The same decomposition can also be applied to analyze the origin of a given flux density harmonic in terms of product of permeance and magnetomotive force waves. This powerful tool allows to easily identify the physical origin of a radial/tangential force/flux wave for a more efficient redesign of the machine.

MANATEE coupling with OptiStruct

EOMYS has started to develop some automated coupling tools between MANATEE (or any other electromagnetic simulation software) and structural finite element software. One of them is Altair Optistruct. The coupling tool allows to calculate the Maxwell forces applying on the stator tooth tip nodes and to define the associated magnetic harmonic loads in Optistruct using TCL programming language.

Machine GUI beta

EOMYS is currently packaging a beta version of the MANATEE machine setup GUI. This GUI aim is to edit the machine files in a more convenient way. For instance, you will be able to check the machine geometry during the edit process. You will still need to use Matlab to run and post-process the simulations.

We are currently looking for MANATEE user to test this GUI with us. If you are interested, please send an email to manatee@eomys.com.

This GUI and all the new features will then be released as MANATEE 1.06.01 once the GUI beta testing finished and the new features validated.

EOMYS News

EOMYS has submitted an article to ISMA 2016 on the analysis of magnetic vibration in a squirrel cage induction machine using MANATEE software. ISMA is a conference on Noise and Vibration Engineering and will be held from 19 till 21 September in Leuven, Belgium.
